Head of Department (Roles and Responsibilities)

The HoDs must be appointed jointly by the Principal and the Vice Principal as per the high noticeable professionalism set by the concerned teachers. The HoD should be an experienced teacher. The tenure of the HoD is flexible and may continue until and unless he/she fails to carry out the responsibilities or goes on transfer as decided by the Principal in consultation with the academic head.

The HoD

 To carry out the responsibilities of a Teacher.

 To assist the school achieve its goals.

 The HOD is responsible for the leadership of the department, the promotion of effective policies, teaching and management, and for setting high professional standards.

 To provide leadership for, and facilitation of the staff members working within the department through:

 facilitating the development of the department as a team, with a shared vision and shared values and beliefs

 developing appropriate schemes of work

 developing appropriate assessment and reporting

 planning, arranging and controlling resources

 developing and monitoring positive learning environments

 planning and facilitating professional learning for the department

 To encourage and foster professional growth among the teachers within the department.

 To report on the department to the Principal and Academic Head as required.

 To work with new teachers, providing professional guidance, advice and support.

 To regularly review all aspects of the department and participate in external reviews as required.

 To ensure that syllabus is covered on time by all the members.

 To carry out question paper moderation before the exams and also ensure test blueprints are prepared ahead of time.

 To maintain a record of lesson plan submission.
